The Bluebird

"The blue bird carries the sky on his back." Henry David Thoureau

The mountain bluebird sits on the barded wire fence in our back field.  His disposition is gentle.  I could watch him for hours.

But for now I will paint him.

"On thier banks dwell the birds of heaven, from the branches they sing their song." Psalm 104

I'm hoping some of these little paintings make it into my Seawashed Shop.

Springs gentle whisper...

"The flowers appear on the earth." Song 2:12

I am busy in my studio...

Always painting the sea...the Pacific Ocean in its ever changing shades of sea blues, greens, greys and whites.

I have found that what flows out of me is gentle, soft and quiet...like a whisper...a whisper of the sea.

I am still painting roses in a faded patina with an asian influence.  I have one wall covered with my seawashed rose paintings and it reminds me of faded rose wallpaper.

I will be stepping away from blogging for a season...for how long, I do not know.  I miss you all and hope you will not forget about me.  Thank you for taking the time to leave comments.  I appreciate your kind words and friendship so much.

You can keep in touch with me by visiting my etsy shop Seawashed...I hope you will!

Flower that opens...

"There is not a flower that opens, not a seed that falls into the ground...that does not proclaim the mercy of God to the whole world." T. Merton

The Sea In My Bedroom

My newest original acrylic painting of the pacific ocean framed and hung by my bedside.

I am trying to offer mostly original art in my Seawashed shop.  I have learned that there is more of an interest in One Of A Kind and Original Paintings.  There is just something about having a piece of art that noone else in the world has.

This adds just the right amount of sea blues to our white nordic coastal bedroom.

I also have original watercolor paintings framed now available in my etsy shop.

Open Up Your Petals...

"Open up your petals, like roses planted near running waters..." Sir. 39

My newest rose painting 'Fantin-Latour'

named after the beloved french artist who loved to paint flowers...a hybrid china rose with smooth foliage and soft blush pink petals with a delicate fragrance.

New Rachel Ashwell white lilac sheers in my studio for spring...

The land around me is awakening to the soft song of springs coming...

In The Quiet

I beg you to keep me in this silence so that I may learn from it
the word of your peace
and the word of your mercy
and the word of your gentleness to the world:
and that through me perhaps your word of peace may make itself  heard
where it has not been possible for anyone to hear it for a long time.
~ Thomas Merton

Spending more time in the quiet on these foggy  winter days...I think of the fields behind my cottage...the smell of the cold damp earth, the quiet of grey sky, and sleeping trees. Life slows down in the cold of winter. We are able to rest more and breath again.

Winter Cottage

"Let us walk in the white snow
in a soundless space;
With footsteps quiet and slow,
at a tranquil pace,
under veils of white lace."
~Elinor Wylie

Discover Beauty

"Discover beauty in everyone..." Rom.12

This is what I am carrying in my heart for the new year.

A Place Far Away

I always watch Out Of Africa to bring in the New Year. Is it because it is the movie that inflamed my heart with dreams so long ago, or is it because of its New Year's Eve scene that always comes to mind? Maybe both, either way it takes me to a place of neverending hope...a place far away from the mundane or troubles of today.

"Give me your lantern and compass, give me a map. So I can find my way to the sacred mountain."Psalm 43

"Uniquely yours in a grove of trees, centered in lotus land. Let me graze in lush Bashan as in the days of green Gilead. " Micah 7:14

May hope rise in all its beauty with the promise of a new year. Keep dreaming, keep believing. ox

Winter Nap

Lily Monet napping on the sheepskin by the fire...

We are plum tuckered out here at Sea Cottage.   Winter's solitude is finally here...and I am reading Pride And Prejudice.

"Everything nourishes what is strong already." Ch. 9
